Hi all,

I am wondering if anyone has any advice with my current setup.

I am running debian linux with ghostscript-esp, printconf, cupsys and all
dependancies (too my knowledge) and have so far had no problem in setting up my
zebra label printer.

1. Run printconf
2. Run Cups add printer > zebra
3. print test page (runs fine)

I am actually needing it to run my citizen label printer, which i have been
informed only needs to be added as raw.

it however will not talk to the printer, anyone have a clp521 label printer
working in linux ?

Hi Colin,

In the label printer niche, most of the manufacturers have their own page
description language for their printers. CUPS has a driver that can output
the Zebra Printer Language (ZPL), which is probably why you had no trouble
installing your Zebra printer.

I looked on the LinuxPrinting.org web site and I didn't see any references
for a CUPS backend driver to support the model of Citizen printer you have
referenced.

When you setup a CUPS printer to work in raw mode, it means that any
application creating information to be passed through that particular CUPS
printer is assumed to have already performed the correct page formatting for
the job and that CUPS is only being asked to deliver the information. It no
longer takes any role in formatting the job.

Thus you would need to insure that your label creating application was
capable of building labels described with the printer language supported by
the Citizen clp521 printer.

HTH

Best Regards,

/Paul

Thanks Paul,

In fact this seems to be ok, as i am seeing no error as such ! The application
i have yet to receive and compile ... so I guess I will have to wait and see
what happens then.

Kind Regards
